Go to the Raspberry icon at the top left corner of the screen and select Preferences -> Raspberry Pi Configuration from the pull-down menu. Click on the "Interfaces" tab. Change "SSH" from "Disable" to "Enable".
Usually this is all you will need to change, although if you are connecting special devices (displays other than the video monitor, environment sensors, camera, remote power control devices, etc.), then you may need to enable other things such as "Camera", "SPI", "I2C" or "1-Wire".
